Pregnancy is a time of tremendous change and requires special treatment to prevent and help manage discomfort caused by your growing abdomen, shifting weight and the effect of hormones on your ligaments. Pregnancy massage can also help you to prepare for the birth of your child and discover what management techniques work best for you. Relax and recline into a "nest" of comfort, either on your side or semi-sitting.
Benefits of Pregnancy Massage: - Reduces swelling and carpal tunnel - Helps improve blood pressure - Deals with postural issues - Treats sciatica and other causes of pain - Helps you with creating a labour management plan - Creates a relationship with a caring professional who you can talk to about your pregnancy concerns
dealing with a higher-risk pregnancy, you need extra care. Enforced
bed rest can lead to an increased risk of blood clots, as well as
possible bed sores and general aches and pains. You may also have
issues with swelling and blood pressure, not to mention the anxiety and
stress that goes along with concern for your health and that of the
baby. Massage therapy can help with all of these areas. We are
well-trained in management of high-risk pregnancy issues, and we can
work with your obstetrician as part of your health care team to ensure a
safe and effective treatment. We can provide treatments at our
clinic, your home, or even at the hospital. Because of the length of
time spent dedicated to you, you can build a relationship with a caring
professional, which can help you express your questions and fears
about pregnancy, childbirth, and care of your child.

Labour Support (Birth Doula)
Studies have shown that women who have constant, knowledgeable support during childbirth experience less pain and require fewer medical interventions. Massage Therapists make excellent Doula's due to our medical background and knowledge of the body and pain relief, as well as our professional, yet comforting approach. We can help explain possible interventions and pain relief options, and are also excellent at helping expectant partners with their role in the birthing process.
We aim to educate you on your options, and support your decisions and your birth plan as much as possible. We then work with both you and your other support person to form a team to give you the emotional and physical assistance you need to have the best labour and childbirth experience possible.
Partners often ask "Why use a doula?" The biggest reason is that your prenatal classes are going to give you a lot of information, but there is so much to know, it's impossible to learn everything in that short period of time. Think of it like a tool kit. The prenatal class is going to give you a basic, adjustable screwdriver, hammer, and duct tape. A doula has a huge toolbox filled with tools of all different types & sizes. She also has the knowledge and experience to know what to use in which situation - like having a mechanic show you how to fine-tune your car's engine! While labour does not need "fixing", it does help to have someone experienced with you, even if it's simply to support YOU while you support her.
Babies love massage, and what better way to develop that special bond with your child? Whether it's to soothe a colicky baby, lull him to sleep, or simply see her squeal with joy, massage is a great way to introduce nurturing touch to your infant. We provide hands-on instruction to either parents or in small groups. The sessions include instructional materials that you get to keep, along with a small bottle of edible, nut-free oil to use with your little one.
Infant massage instruction is perfect for family members and care-givers, including grandparents and older siblings. It can help you to build confidence in your ability to communicate with your baby, and can become an important and special ritual that brings you closer together.
